Fun With Dad

This last week, Kim was spending her time as a leader up at Girl's Camp, so Taylor and Tenley got to spend the week with Dad. This is how the week went:

Monday:
Mom left early in the morning, so Dad got to get the girls ready for the day. He was hoping to sleep in as he was up late the night before helping Mom get everything ready for camp. Unfortunately, the girls got up at their normal time, so Dad had to deal. After a relaxing morning, Dad got the girls ready. (Thank goodness Taylor has learned to get herself ready.) About 10 am, Dad loaded up the girls and took them to his office to try and get some work done. While Taylor entertained herself on the computer, Dad was hoping Tenley would keep herself busy watching the movie "Bambi" which he brought, except when he opened the case, only the "special fetured" DVD was in there. Tenley did keep herself somewhat occupied by emptying dad's drawer. We got through about two hours before the girls, and Dad got hungry. But before they headed for home, they went on a "treasure hunt". With GPS in hand they found their first cache and became hooked on geocaching. Thank you Uncle Darren for letting them borrow your GPS unit and introducing them to geocaching. Lunch, naps and goecaching pretty much took them though the rest of the day. The day ended with dad giving the girls a bath.

Tuesday:
Since he made it so nicely though day one, Dad thought he could handle taking them to a public activity, Storytime at the library. Since Kim takes them almost every week, Taylor was the guide on where to go and what to do. As Taylor rushed into the storytime room and was greeted by the librarian, Dad followed behind with Tenley in tow. To the surprise of many "regulars" to storytime, Dad walked in. As the only adult male in the room, it was interesting. Stories were read, songs were sang, crafts were made, and books were checked out, and it was considered a successful outing. Dad was feeling pretty good about himself, so he thought the girls would love to go camping for the night. And that is what they did. The afternoon was spent getting everything ready, and by the time they got up to the campground, it was dinner time. At that moment dad realized he forgot to bring the chicken they were going to eat for dinner. Being a quick thinker, Dad remembered a pizza parlor at the entrance of the campground. YUM!! The rest of the evening was spent setting up the camp and roasting marshmallows and making s'mores. Double YUM!!!


Wednesday:
Since all slept on the same air mattress, and Dad being the heaviest of the three, the girls ended up rolling to him, snuggled in for the night. The girls seemed to sleep well, but dad slept as best he could. Being tired, Dad got up and fixed a pancake breakfast (didn't forget that). After a little time of playing along the lake shore and playing with the games they brought, they broke camp and thought they'd try their hand at geocaching again. But factoring in the late night and having so much fun, the girls were practically asleep by the time they reached the first cache location, so on home they headed.

Since there was no cell phone signal at the campground they didn't talk to mom all night, so first thing at home they called mom. They were excited to talk to her and even more exciting to find out mom was coming home that afternoon. Apparently when someone is ten weeks pregnant, staying up late talking with the girls, high temperatures and humidity, and moldy cabins aren't ideal. The rest of the afternoon was spent trying to get the house somewhat presentable for the return of Mom. Dad wasn't planning on really cleaning until Thursday and Friday. So a week with Dad was cut a little short, but the time they did have together, was a blast.
